Miscellaneous Monday

miscell monday

Reading…I just finished Shelter by Jung Yun and Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi, both which I enjoyed very much. “Enjoyed” being a loose term seeing as they are both darker books. I was truly invested in both, which I haven’t felt in some time. I also read the print versions in tandem with audio versions and audiobooks have been really working for me lately. Now I need a lighter read, so I downloaded Shrill by Lindy West and picked up a copy of Difficult Women by Roxane Gay from my library. My first 2017 release and a short story collection!

Watching…On the “lighter” kick I rented Bridget Jones’s Baby. Yes, it wasn’t great cinema but I enjoyed it thoroughly. I may have even watched a few scenes over and over. You know, Mr. Darcy. And I just got back from going to see La La Land with my girls. Again, it had some flaws but I’m a huge fan of classic musicals and appreciated the references. The minute we got home my girls were on the piano and singing up a storm. Ahhh…the arts.

Loving…audiobooks. They are fitting beautifully in my life right now and I’m getting to read! I have much to say about my renewed relationship with them, I feel a blog post brewing.

Needing…to plan a vacation. We’ve been home bound for a while since the new home and I’m feeling nature/national parks/sightseeing in our near future.

Wanting…to ignore all my work responsibilities and curl up with a good book on this rainy, cold day. So off I go!

  1. I’m so glad you loved Shelter and you’re right, “enjoy” is not quite the right word, but I was maybe enthralled?

  2. Strangely this is not the only recent rave of Shelter I’ve read, and that’s something seeing as it came out some time ago. It’s been on my list, I will shove it up a bit higher. 🙂
