I’m super excited to participate in my first ever readathon hosted by the lovely ladies at Dewey’s 24-Hour Readathon. It happens twice a year, April and October, and this is the first time I have nothing pressing. Well, of course once I signed up I was invited to dinner for a family birthday, but that’s later this evening and so for the next ten hours, I’m free as a bird!
Opening Meme: Hour 0
1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?
This comfy little nook in my house, supplied with sunny nature views, pets and hot coffee. To be more precise, I live in a suburb about an hour northwest of Chicago.
2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?
It’s a toss up really. I’ve made a stack but totally reading at whim today. I’m a short story nut, so any from this stack by new-to-me authors will be fun. Also, I added the graphic novel of A Wrinkle in Time (a favorite as a child), The Big Bad Book of Bill Murray (for some fun) and Elizabeth Berg’s book about writing (something that I want to do). I’m scared to take the writing plunge and feel Berg will be the comforting voice to guide the way. I also have a few audios for when I need to drive (The Swans of Fifth Avenue) and take a walk/run (The Light Between Oceans).
3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?
I completely missed this part of the plan so whatever I have in the house will have to do.
4) Tell us a little something about yourself!
Ugh. Well, for those who don’t know me…I’ve been working at a library for two years after being in education for 15. I’m working on my ESL endorsement, which has given me the teaching bug once again…so…I’m hoping to get back into teaching full time in the Fall. I have two daughters (11 and 13), love nature, yoga, reading (of course) and hope the Blackhawks stay alive tonight in the playoffs!
5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to?
It’s my first time, so I’m taking it all as it comes. I’m most looking forward to reading for the pure pleasure of reading without any expectations, goals, stress. I’ll try and check in on social media (Twitter and Instagram) but I’m socially awkward and social media inept. And if I’m quiet, I’m probably just reading.
