Books I Missed in 2015

I had every intention of reading these books. I talked about them. Wrote up posts for how excited I was to read them. Put some on hold. Picked the holds up. And then something happened. Some of these books were returned unread. One was started and I was thoroughly enjoying it before life intervened and I had to put it aside.

And let’s face it. There are many more out there that I am sure I will finally pick up in 2020 and say, “I finally got to this backlist book from 2015. It was so good! What took me so long?” Here are just nine of the books I would have definitely given more of my attention to last year if the year was made up of thirteen months. Picking just ten books seemed impossible and I could have easily picked twenty more. (Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.)

Books I Missed in 2015

There’s Something I Want You To Do: Stories by Charles Baxter

The Royal We by Heather Cocks & Jessica Morgan

The Outer Harbour: Stories by Wayde Compton

The Star Side of Bird Hill by Naomi Jackson

Infinite Home by Kathleen Alcott

Kitchens of the Great Midwest by J. Ryan Stradal

Circling The Sun by Paula McLain (Just started the audio yesterday!)

The Visiting Privilege: New and Collected Stories by Joy Williams

Mothers, Tell Your Daughters by Bonnie Jo Campbell

???

Which book did you miss last year?

Can you help me pick one more for my list?

  1. “And let’s face it. There are many more out there that I am sure I will finally pick up in 2020 and say, “I finally got to this backlist book from 2015. It was so good! What took me so long?” ” — This is so true!

  2. We have a few overlaps here! The only one on your list I actually read was Starside, and really enjoyed it. Not the *best* book I’ve eve read, but definitely worth a read! Hit me up in 2020 when you get to it, and we an have a chat 😉

  3. I have Mothers, Tell Your Daughters and Circling the Sun on my list as well. Two I bought but haven’t read yet are Undermajordomo Minor and Our Endless Numbered Days. Looking back for this list, I missed a lot of good books last year, more than I realized!

  4. Always more books than time! I absolutely hate returning books to the library partially read. When there’s a couple days left, I’m often on my library’s website, hoping I can renew them!

  5. These sorts of lists are never finite. This is great because we never run out of things to read, but also annoying because realistically (and sadly) we’ll never be able to read everything.
Undermajordomo Minor (as mentioned by Priscilla above) is really good – one of my top 10 books from last year. You should definitely add that to you list.

  6. Life has a way of doing that, doesn’t it? I hope everything is back to normal and you have time to read again. And the interest in it!

I’m not even going to suggest anymore for your list, but will say The Royal We is such a light, fun read about the Will & Kate saga that it’s a great way to jump back into book love. You have some other wonderful choices on your list already so I’m sure you’ll recover!
