Book Blog Memes / Bookish Discussions

It’s Monday, November 8, 2015. What Are You Reading?

I just realized that last Monday I mentioned “in lieu of” regarding this weekly meme about Nonfiction November.  Oh the workings of a scattered brain. I probably meant “in addition to”. I’m not sure, but anyway, here we are. 🙂

It’s funny how when the mind and attention is directed at something else, it becomes all that is seen. Now that I’ve begun Nonfiction November, all I see is nonfiction books I want to read. This is great. It’s what I was hoping for but doesn’t mean I’m forgetting about my other reads. I am reading both this month, as I used to.

Fates and Furies between the world and me do unto animals

I’m almost halfway through Fates and Furies by Lauren Groff and wondering when the awful beginning will happen. Many readers felt that the first half was terrible, but I’m actually enjoying somewhat of a case study of a man who is self-centered and infantile. Maybe I’ll dislike the second half. 😉

Alongside Fates and Furies I am reading Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates. I think I will go through several stacks of flags. It’s everything people raved it would be.

And then…Do Unto Animals newly arrived at the library and I snatched it up. No holds!! I can already say without finishing it that if you are an animal lover, you must pick this one up. It’s simple yet effective and the illustrations are darling. People at work were trying to snag it from me. I didn’t realize it was by Tracey Stewart (yes wife to that Jon Stewart) and if you love him, you’ll love her as well. Can they adopt me?

It’s Monday, what are you reading?

  1. I didn’t think the first half of F&F was terrible, but I was definitely not impressed and thought it really dragged. Would probably have DNF’d had I not known in advance that the second half would turn things on their heads.

  2. These are 3 great books! I already have Do Unto Animals on my list just from what you said here. If it takes a turn for the worse, let us know! 🙂
