On a personal note...

It’s Monday, August 31, 2015. What Are You Reading?

I’m glad I am not doing an August recap of my reading because it was pathetic to say the least. I mentioned a few times about going through some “house projects” over the summer. The real scoop is we put our home on the market back in July, found a house we love, lost that house (and now hate it-not really), got a few offers on ours and now are scrambling to find something. All the while keeping our home clean and tidy for ongoing showings with jobs, kids and pets to juggle. So reading time hasn’t been as ample as I would like and with all that is going on I am struggling to focus. I did a marathon of the first season on Masters of Sex, which was excellent and can’t wait to start season 2. Anyone watch it?

So…this week I am still reading Best Boy by Eli Gotttlieb and had to return Circling the Sun to the library. With 20+ holds I couldn’t renew it and hope to get a copy again soon.

I picked up a couple of short story collections also at the library this week: The State We’re In by Ann Beattie, In the Country by Mia Alvar and Lovers on All Saints’ Day by Juan Gabriel Vásquez. We’ll see if any stick.

It’s Monday. What are you reading this week?

  1. Wow – that’s a ton going on…and I hear ya on trying to keep the house clean for showings with kids around! Congrats on getting offers on your house, though! I’ll be interested to hear your thoughts on Best Boy…I tried it earlier this summer but wasn’t feeling it. I sort of intended to pick it back up at some point, but never really got the urge, so have now officially DNF’d it.

  2. Ahhhh, this is what I’m so nervous about! We keep crossing our fingers someone else won’t snatch up that house before we can get our house up and offer on it. So glad you’re through the stress of showing and hope you find something else you love. I can’t wait to hear about your short stories – I’m curious about The State We’re In.

    • Oh I hope it all works out for you! We lost the house by about 10 days and tried to offer more but it wasn’t meant to be. Well that’s what everyone says but we kinda put the horse before the cart. :/ Best of luck!!!

  3. Masters of Sex is pretty good. I saw the first season too and am eager to see the second. Lizzy Caplan has a lot of screen charisma – her performance is really engaging and a huge part of the show’s appeal, I think.

    • I do like it. I think you are right about Caplan’s appeal. Really the whole cast is pretty strong. Aside from the obvious of what is alluring about the show, I really love the history and progression of women’s rights, sexuality and health fought for by Masters and Johnson. And other doctors at that time. We’ll see how season 2 holds up.
