It’s Monday, March 23. What Are You Reading?

Like Spring fashion here in the Windy City, we had a few gorgeous days followed by a temperature drop and snow flurries. Just when I thought I could pack away the winter wear, I was fooled by mother nature. But that didn’t stop my from logging some wonderful reading hours.

At the beginning of this month I fell into a reading slump after reading A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara. It was just so engrosing and emotionally exhausting, that I couldn’t find another book to get my mind off it. I stopped reading several, caught up with podcasts and a few television series and started watching a lot of HGTV namely, Beachfront Bargain Hunt, Caribbean Life and Island Life…see any theme here?

But then one book stuck and it was my first Stephen King in years, Bag of Bones for #kingsmarch. After that I felt back to normal and devoured Our Endless Numbered Days by Claire Fuller, which has to be a favorite this year for me. Now I am reading The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah and it’s a wonderful read. I used to read a lot of Hannah back in the day but this is a real switch from her dramatic women’s fiction. I also picked up a copy of newly released Hausfrau by Jill Alexander Essbaum. Those covers, gorgeous!

It’s Monday friends, what are you reading?

  1. Those are both beautiful covers ,though not in my wheelhouse, so I wouldn’t have picked up Housfrau unless I heard some of the to-do. Now trying to finish up the audio before the Salon starts talking about it. I’ve been interested to see what portions of it strike me the most and have been surprised at the two things that did.

I’m reading Spinster, which is quite good thus far, and a book called Night Games, which is something of an expose of the rape culture of Australian Rules Football. The subject interests me as a sports nut, and I’m trying to read more Aussie authors this year.
