I can’t believe it’s the end of 2014! I was hoping to squeeze in a few more reads before the end of the year but I’ve been crazy busy with the holidays, work and family stuff so fitting in some solid reading time has been challenging.
My last “It’s Monday…What Are You Reading?” post, I opened it up to readers to help me pick out my final books for 2014 and went with:
I. AM. LOVING. THEM. BOTH!!! So thank you to Shannon and Catherine for steering me in their direction.
And boy are they completely different! Florence Gordon (September 2014) is a Contemporary/Literary Fiction story which follows Florence who is 75 and the master of one-liners and snark. She is a true feminist who can definitely hold her own.
The Miniaturist (July 2014) is Historical Fiction taking place in 1686 Amsterdam and combines elements of fantasy and mystery. I had some long traveling to visit family over the holidays and wanted an audio book to listen to. I have never listened to an audio book all the way through and this one narrated by the amazing Davina Porter is mesmerizing. It has changed my views on audio books entirely. I’m also reading it which has enhanced the experience altogether.
The crazy thing is that I heard the pitch for The Miniaturist at BEA this year during a panel of authors/publishers highlighting new books for 2014. It sounded amazing and why I didn’t pick up a copy is beyond me.
I most likely won’t have the reviews up before 2014 ends. I still need to post my list for favorites this year and will participate in the last Top Ten Tuesday tomorrow. I just wish I had gotten to them sooner!
