It’s Monday, October 27th. What Are You Reading?

18467802[1]I’m just finishing up Euphoria by Lily King. This captivating novel inspired by anthropologist Margaret Mead is going to make me obsess about her work and her life. I just don’t want it to end! I can already tell it will be on my favorites for 2014. Before that I read Can’t We Talk About Something More Pleasant? by Roz Chast, and again, an instant favorite.

These past few weeks have been so freeing with my book choices. I call it my “Backlist Bliss” phase. Similar to when I first started blogging; reading what I wanted, when I wanted.

I had some “required reading” with book clubs, a book tour and some ARCs I felt obligated responsible to read. I never have to write a review but I feel that if I request it, I should do my part and at least read it. Or attempt to.

So with all that being said, I do have several ARCs I would like to finish before 2014 comes to a close. They slipped through the cracks in my reading schedule. These three are all under 300 pages and two of them short stories, which will give me more time to get back to my “Backlist Bliss”.

  1. Margaret Mead is so inspiring. Is the book a fictionalised account of her life or just inspired by her? I’ve just started I’m halfway through laline Paull’s The Bees and finding it very absorbing.

    • Absorbing is a perfect word to describe The Bees. It’s a work of fiction inspired by a time in Mead’s life where she spent a few months together with two other anthropologists in 1933 in New Guinea. I want to read more about her now!

      • One of my all-time fave quotes is from mead: Never doubt that a small group of people can change the world; indeed, it is the only thing that ever has. So inspiring!

  2. Euphoria sounds incredible. Must. Resist. Buying another book.

I’ve been enjoying my own version of backlist bliss this month, too! It feels so liberating. Enjoy Stone Mattress! It’s super good.
