It’s that exciting time when you get to search for some new books to add to your collection, gift teachers new classroom books and support the love for reading. It’s like a BEA event for children. There are even selections for adults. Another ploy to get me in there?
But all humor aside, it’s a great event to get ready for summer reading. Those twelve weeks where reading for pleasure can resume at a higher level because reading logs, homework and projects are non existent. Being in the Midwest we get to read more outside after a long, never-ending winter. Here’s a great opinion piece from the NY Times, about how reading for pleasure in children seems to be dwindling titled Read, Kids, Read.
It’s also another great time to visit the local library. There are always fantastic free events going on. Libraries also have recommended reading lists for children at all grade levels if you are unsure where to steer your child. Pick up a few copies for yourself! When children see their parents read, they are more inclined to do the same.
